Know Your Skin

Did you know your skin is your body’s largest organ? It is not only important to have beautiful skin, but it is equally as important to have healthy skin. Moisturized skin will help you tan quicker, get darker, and maintain your tan longer. Our indoor tanning lotions will help stimulate your body’s production of melanin, which gives your skin natural pigment. Naturally tan people have more melanin than lighter skinned people have. Melanin is our body’s natural sunscreen and helps protect us from overexposing in the sun. When you are exposed to ultra violet light either from the sun or indoor tanning, your body’s natural response is to increase the production of melanin. The increased production in melanin results in a tan and also offers your body many of the natural benefits it was intended for.

At Year Round Brown, it is our highest priority that you not only achieve the tanning you desire but you also achieve it safely! In order to build a safe, healthy tan it is very important you tan properly; thus, avoiding getting pink or red after each session. If you build a tan safely and slowly you will not only achieve the look you desire, but you will also have a healthy tan that can act as a natural sunscreen when outdoors. The federal government regulates indoor tanning in the United States and Canada. Exposure times for every tanning session are set by a schedule that is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Designed to minimize the risk of sunburn, these schedules take into consideration your skin type, how long you’ve been tanning and the intensity of the equipment. Exposure times are increased gradually to minimize the possibility of burning. When reading the skin chart below the lower the “skin type number,” the higher the risk of burning.
